It’s curious how the loudest voices calling to defund the police are often the first to reach for the phone in times of crisis, dialing 911 for the very assistance they seek to reduce.

While they may engage in protests, chants, and speeches against law enforcement, these same individuals inevitably rely on police protection when faced with immediate threats.

This inconsistency highlights a fundamental truth: even those who criticize the police ultimately recognize their indispensable role in maintaining order and safety.

Security and Information: The Real Debate on Accountability

Rather than undermining law enforcement through defunding, we should defend the police, ensuring they have the resources, training, and support needed to protect communities effectively. It’s about fostering accountability and trust, not stripping away the foundation of public safety.

On the other hand, if there’s an institution that has truly earned scrutiny, it’s the media. Often driving division and sensationalism, the media’s influence can shape public perceptions through biased narratives rather than objective reporting. Perhaps it’s time to consider a different approach: defund the media that fuels conflict and misinformation, redirecting focus toward responsible journalism that informs rather than inflames. In a world where facts matter, holding media accountable for their influence is just as crucial as supporting the police who stand ready to serve.
